I must say I think Paul Holmes is a great writer....in fact, it's my preferred medium to take him in.
His latest outburst about Waitangi Day is a bit rich though coming from him. The lefty media, of which Paul has been a champion of for 20-odd years, has been dining out on the crazy minority up there for years.
It's hardly a revolution, its just that the Campbell's of the world love giving them about 100 fold the viewing time that their numbers actually warrant. It's the same rent-a-crowd that will be outside the Auckland High Court at the moment watching Tama and his mates...
Paul has cashed in on that same crowd over the years but not now.....he's finally realised he actually is right-wing. I thought that would have happened when he started shouting down his megaphone at the Heads pad a few years back.....anyway, welcome to the real world Paul.

Where's the orange jacket
So I was reading the better half's girlie mags (as you do) when low and behold...Bob Parker! And his partner! Again! What is that, like the 7th or 8th time?
Dam! He just never lets up. The earthquake might have given him another crack at the Mayoralty but for sure it's also gonna be responsible for taking it away. I was down in Chch a few weeks back and the mood was very anti-Bob....obviously that sentiment has hit the national headlines now that a few thousand punters fronted outside his office to vent their anger.
I mean, seriously, is Bob on crack? Why else would he want to sneak through a secret $70k pay-rise to his GM at this time, in this city. He tried to front foot it when the news broke by pointing the finger at those horrible people in his team that leaked the back-room deal but now he is on the charm offensive in the only way he knows how...Womens Day.
I can just hear the call now...."Len, it's Bob....listen, that Port business is a nightmare, get yourself back in the Day"....

Teapot tales
What a surprise that the John Key tape has been leaked to the internet. Looks to me like the media always had their nose out of joint on this one. This is just another example of where they really sit on the gutter-journalism meter. It's one (small) step away from hacking phone messages.
The conversation was private and was always intended to be private.
You can bet the media-pack will keep the one-sided reporting going on this one until they convince one or two of us that it was fair and ethical...

Brown's in Town #1
Anyone else happy that Len Brown didn't break into song at the premiere of Sione 2?...

The key to Success?
Wandered into the Success Cafe in Coromandel over the Christmas break. OK, I was feeling slightly under the weather so the menu wasn't doing it for me - I asked (nicely) if they could whip me up a bacon and egg sarnie to go with my coffee; not an outrageous request at 10.30 a.m. I would have thought.
The response? "No, the menu's there (point); if I make one for you everyone will want one".
.....at least the coffee was good(ish)

Any Port in a Storm?
Looks like the Maritime Union have seriously missed the mark this time round....twice as expensive to load a container in Auckland compared to Tauranga. Could be quite some time before their flash reception area gets a make-over at the Union Head Office.
And maybe it's just me, but I'm not convinced the main drag to St Heliers is the best place to canvass support for a picket-line....
Still, at least I got to watch Len squirm in front of the media. He only has himself to blame; what was he thinking getting himself involved in this dispute? Shades of the Helen Clark / Owen Glen snub when it came to Len backing one of his campaign supporters.
